Durham Announces New Planning Director
City Manager Tom Bonfield and County Manager Wendell Davis have named Sara Moreno Young as the next director of the Durham City-County Planning Department. Young has worked for the department since 2000, including the role of assistant director since 2014, and has been serving as the interim director of the department since July of this year.
Mayor and Police Chief Hold Press Conference to Address Vandalism
Mayor Steve Schewel and Police Chief C.J. Davis held a virtual press conference on Thursday, September 24, to address vandalism that took place in downtown Durham on Wednesday evening. During the event, a large unannounced group caused damage to dozens of businesses and properties. Mayor Schewel acknowledged the importance of protest, and praised the effort of the Durham Police Department in supporting peaceful protest in recent months, but said that the City will not allow this type of violence and destruction.

The deadline is looming to complete the 2020 Census. With only a 61% response rate in Durham County, we need every Durham resident to take the census to make sure Durham get essential funding, data, and representation.
Notice of Non-Toxic Smoke Testing in Several Durham Neighborhoods
As of Thursday, September 24, a week of smoke testing is underway in the following Durham neighborhoods: Landon Farms, Northeast Hills, Geer Street, and Midland Woods. The smoke identifies potential sanitary sewer system defects, is non-toxic, does not leave residue, and is not a fire hazard.
