Park Renovations

Crest Street Park Softball Field

Beginning Tuesday, September 19 the softball field at Crest Street Park will be closed for renovations. New lights will be installed, and the project is anticipated to be completed by the end of November. Due to routine maintenance, the softball field will remain closed for play through mid-March 2018. Patrons are welcome to enjoy the other sections of the park as they will not be affected.

Burton Park Basketball Court

One of the two basketball courts at Burton Park (1100 Sima Ave.) is unavailable for play until further notice due to stream erosion issues.

The erosion was identified by Durham Parks and Recreation’s (DPR) maintenance staff during a park convergence.  The purpose of the convergence was to identify and repair maintenance issues in the park from vegetation management to touching up paint.

During the convergence, the park maintenance team identified a safety hazard on one of the two basketball courts at Burton Park. The stream eroded one of the courts making it unsafe and playable for patrons. The court will be closed and unavailable for play until the repairs are made.

Until repairs are complete, patrons can use the other basketball court at the park which will receive minor updates in the coming weeks. DPR encourages park users to be mindful of the signs and stay clear of the affected area. Please report any safety and playability hazards to DPR.
