The City Clerk’s Office Presents the Monthly Board Member Spotlight:

Kasey Decosimo, Carolina Theatre Board of Trustees

Why would you encourage someone in the community to apply to be on a board, committee, or commission?

There’s no better way to learn more about a community than through service and connecting with other passionate community members around a common purpose. If you want to join the conversation on where you want Durham to be in the next 5, 10, or 20 years, volunteer!

What do you enjoy most about serving on your particular board?

The Carolina Theatre is one of the cultural jewels of downtown Durham! It is a beautiful representation of a historic institution that has transformed through significant political, social, and economic change. We have a special needs brother, and one of my favorite summertime memories is going to movies with him at the Carolina Theatre. Not all spaces in the ever-expanding downtown Durham feel welcome to all or serve as a place we all feel ownership in. I hope through the service of our board, we can continue to make the Carolina Theatre a welcoming place of civic pride.

What is your favorite part about living in Durham?

The people, hands down. There are so many interesting people and artists who live right here.
