Buchanan Boulevard Waterline Replacement Project Update and Two-Week Look Ahead

The City appreciates your ongoing patience with the work along the busy corridors associated with this project. Additional information regarding this project can be found at: http://durhamnc.gov/3617/Buchanan-Blvd-Waterline-Replacement.

Planned Road / Lane Closures will occur as follows:

  • Week of 10/14:
    • Full closure of Buchanan Blvd between W. Main Street and Maxwell Ave.
    • Isolated lane closures and traffic shifts in Shepherd Street, Buchanan Blvd, W. Chapel Hill Street, and Exum Street for sewer repairs and pavement restoration.
  • Week of 10/21:
    • Isolated lane closures and traffic shifts in Peabody Street, Buchanan Blvd, W. Chapel Hill Street, and Exum Street for waterline connections, sewer repairs, and pavement restoration.

Saturday – Sunday October 12-13, 2019:

  • No work will take place on Saturday or Sunday.

Week of October 14, 2019:

  • Buchanan Boulevard will be closed in both directions between W. Main Street and Maxwell Ave.
    • Waterline installation and pavement repairs will continue.
    • Traffic control signs and markings will be used for all traffic detours.
    • Sidewalk traffic will be disrupted.
    • Noise levels in excess of the current City noise ordinance are anticipated during work hours.
    • Planned work hours are 7 AM to 7 PM.
  • Isolated lane closures and shifts lasting several hours will be required in the project area to accommodate waterline connections, sanitary sewer repairs, and pavement restoration.
    • Traffic control signs and markings will be used for all traffic detours.
    • Shepherd and Exum Street pavement restoration will take place during daytime hours.

Saturday – Sunday October 19-20, 2019:

  • No work will take place on Saturday or Sunday.

Week of October 21, 2019:

  • Buchanan Boulevard will be re-opened to traffic in both directions.
  • Waterline testing and water service connections will take place in Peabody Street.
    • Traffic control signs and markings will be used for all traffic detours.
    • Sidewalk traffic will be disrupted.
    • Noise levels in excess of the current City noise ordinance are anticipated during work hours.
    • Planned work hours are 7 AM to 7 PM.
    • Water service connections will be coordinated with affected customers 7 days prior to work taking place.
  • Isolated lane closures and shifts lasting several hours will be required in the project area to accommodate waterline connections, sanitary sewer repairs, and pavement restoration.
    • Traffic control signs and markings will be used for all traffic detours.
    • Isolated lane closures and traffic shifts in Peabody Street, Buchanan Blvd, W. Chapel Hill Street, and Exum Street.
