The City appreciates your ongoing patience with the work along the busy corridors associated with this project. Additional information regarding this project can be found at: http://durhamnc.gov/3617/Buchanan-Blvd-Waterline-Replacement.

Planned Road / Lane Closures will occur as follows:

  • Week of 9/2:
    • No work will take place on Labor Day.
    • Eastbound lane closure of Peabody Street between W. Main Street and Duke Street.
    • Southbound lane closure in Buchanan Blvd between W. Main Street and Maxwell Ave.
    • Isolated lane closures and traffic shifts in project area for sanitary sewer investigations and rehabilitation. 
  • Week of 9/9:
    • Southbound lane closure in Buchanan Blvd between W. Main Street and Maxwell Ave.
    • Isolated lane closures and traffic shifts in project area for sanitary sewer investigations and rehabilitation. 

Saturday – Monday August 31-September 2, 2019:

  • No work will take place on Saturday, Sunday, or Monday (Labor Day). 

Week of September 2, 2019:

  • Peabody Street will have eastbound lane closures between W. Main Street and Duke Street.
    • Waterline installation and pavement repairs will continue in Peabody Street.
    • Traffic control signs and markings will be used for all traffic detours.
    • Noise levels in excess of the current City noise ordinance are anticipated during work hours.
    • Planned work hours are 7 AM to 7 PM.
  • Buchanan Boulevard will have southbound lane closures between W. Main Street and Maxwell Ave.
    • Waterline installation and pavement repairs will continue.
    • Traffic control signs and markings will be used for all traffic detours.
    • Sidewalk traffic will be disrupted.
    • Noise levels in excess of the current City noise ordinance are anticipated during work hours.
    • Planned work hours are 7 AM to 7 PM.
  • Isolated lane closures and shifts lasting several hours will be required in the project area to accommodate sanitary sewer investigations and sidewalk installation.
    • Traffic control signs and markings will be used for all traffic detours. 
    • Sanitary sewer lining and dye testing will take place in Gattis, Exum, Burch, Wilkerson, and Jackson streets during daytime hours.  Notices will be distributed to affected customers prior to work taking place.

Future Weeks:

  • Beginning the week of September 16, Buchanan Blvd will be closed in both directions between W. Main Street and Maxwell Street to accommodate waterline installation near the railroad tracks.
