Buchanan Boulevard Waterline Replacement Project Update and Two-Week Look Ahead

The City appreciates your ongoing patience with the work along the busy corridors associated with this project. Additional information regarding this project can be found at: http://durhamnc.gov/3617/Buchanan-Blvd-Waterline-Replacement.

Planned Road / Lane Closures will occur as follows:

  • Week of 3/11:
    • On street parking and turning lane closures in W. Chapel Hill Street between Kent Street and Buchanan Boulevard.
    • Temporary lane closures in W. Chapel Hill Street intersections between Kent Street and Buchanan Blvd. Flaggers will be utilized to maintain traffic.
  • Week of 3/18:
    • On street parking and turning lane closures in W. Chapel Hill Street between Kent Street and Buchanan Boulevard.
    • Temporary lane closures in W. Chapel Hill Street intersections between Kent Street and Buchanan Blvd. Flaggers will be utilized to maintain traffic.

Week of March 11, 2019:

  • W. Chapel Hill Street will have lane and on-street parking closures to accommodate waterline installation.
    • Traffic control signs and markings will be used for all lane shifts.
    • Flaggers will be utilized for traffic control while work is taking place in intersections of W. Chapel Hill Street with Kent St, Gattis St, Carroll St, and Buchanan Blvd.
    • Sidewalk traffic will be disrupted.
    • Noise levels in excess of the current City noise ordinance are anticipated during work hours.
    • On-street parking will be closed in work areas.
    • Planned work hours are 7 AM to 7 PM.
    • No water or sewer service disruptions are anticipated.

Saturday – Sunday March 16-17, 2019:

  • No work will take place on Saturday or Sunday.

Week of March 18, 2019:

  • W. Chapel Hill Street will have lane and on-street parking closures to accommodate waterline installation.
    • Traffic control signs and markings will be used for all lane shifts.
    • Flaggers will be utilized for traffic control while work is taking place in intersections of W. Chapel Hill Street with Kent St, Gattis St, Carroll St, and Buchanan Blvd.
    • Sidewalk traffic will be disrupted.
    • Noise levels in excess of the current City noise ordinance are anticipated during work hours.
    • On-street parking will be closed in work areas.
    • Planned work hours are 7 AM to 7 PM.
    • Water service reconnections will be scheduled with customers between Kent Street and Buchanan Blvd seven (7) days prior to the proposed work.

Saturday – Sunday March 23-24, 2019:

  • No work will take place on Saturday or Sunday.
