Pedestrian Critically Injured in Crash
A Durham man was critically injured this morning when he was struck by a vehicle as he was walking across South Alston Avenue near Linwood Avenue.
The crash happened around 6 a.m. when the pedestrian was struck by a northbound 2002 PT Cruiser driven by Australia Clay of Durham. According to investigators, the pedestrian was in a crosswalk, but the vehicle had a green light.
The 38-year-old pedestrian, whose name is not being released at this time because relatives have not been notified, was taken to the hospital for treatment of critical injuries. Ms. Clay was not injured.
Neither drugs nor alcohol appear to be factors in the crash, according to investigators.
The northbound lanes of South Alston Avenue were closed for about two hours following the crash.
No charges have been filed, but the crash remains under investigation.
