Durham Police Investigate Fatal Traffic Crash
Durham police investigators are investigating a fatal traffic crash that happened this morning on N.C. 55 at Whilden Drive.
The crash happened around 9:45 a.m. when a southbound 2002 Honda Civic driven by Fredrick Dairus Yarbough, 30, of Durham, ran off the road to the right and went out of control. The Honda then spun and slid down the road with the passenger side of the vehicle facing forward. The passenger side of the Honda crashed into the back of a southbound lowboy tractor-trailer. The tractor-trailer, which was driven by Donald Wayne Hayes, 50, of Wake Forest, was stopped in the left turn lane waiting to turn onto Whilden Drive.
Yarbough, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was partially ejected from the Honda. He was taken to the hospital, where he died a short time later. Hayes was not injured.
No charges have been filed. The accident remains under investigation.
