When celebrating the traditions and goodwill of the winter holiday season, often times residents, families and travelers tend to be less careful, and thus, more vulnerable to theft and other crimes. November and December of the year, the Community Resource Unit facilitates seasonal educational outreach and hosts safety campaigns to raise awareness of best practices to victimization.
Departmental and Community Services Division holiday safety initiatives typically include:
Mass distribution of fliers that promote holiday safety tip;
Information booths at major retail hubs;
Officer in-store safety sweeps to alert shoppers of careless behaviors;
Increased direct patrols in commercial districts and target neighborhood beats; and
Increased broadcast, social media and print campaigns on holiday safety.
