This project will replace existing, deteriorating waterlines and sewers within North Elizabeth Street from Holloway Street to East Geer Street, as well as adjacent side streets as shown on the map (PDF).
Approximately 7,400 linear feet of 8-inch to 12-inch waterline and 6,400 linear feet of 8-inch sewer will be replaced. The project may include some select storm drainage replacements in affected areas.
The initial field study work encompassed field reviews of existing waterlines/sewers, locating and assessing the condition of existing water meters, and obtaining survey in the project area and is now complete. GEL Engineering Inc. and Cooper & Associates Surveyors, P.A. are performing additional investigative work in select areas to supplement the design efforts currently underway. Representatives are working primarily within the existing public right of way. They will wear safety vests and carry proper identification at all times.
The investigative work is expected to cause minimal disturbance in the project area. To locate and survey existing buried utilities, temporary non-toxic paint of various colors is used on the ground to mark the location of buried utilities throughout the project area. This temporary paint will wash away in several weeks depending on rain, traffic, etc. Door hangers will also be distributed seven days prior to any work anticipated close to your area.
As designs progress, small test hole excavations (approximately 6”-12” diameter holes) may be performed in critical locations to verify locations and materials of existing affected buried utilities to help better identify potential underground construction conflicts.
The design phase of the project is expected to be completed in the summer of 2020.
Construction is expected to begin in late 2020.
