Stadium Drive and Olympic Avenue provide north-south access to Durham County Stadium and Duke Regional Hospital, and also connect the Whippoorwill Park/Warren Creek Trail and the Ellerbee Creek Trail/Rock Quarry Park. Other nearby destinations include the Edison Johnson Aquatics Center and the Museum of Life and Science.
Currently the two-lane road is between 34-40' wide, resulting in high speeds of motor vehicles. While the North-South Greenway runs alongside a large portion of this corridor, bicycle lanes will provide another option for those travelling by bicycle and also make the road safer for those travelling by car.
You can see the proposed cross-section below, and comment on these plans at this link. A public meeting will be held at the Whitted School in Durham on Saturday September 22 from 10am-1pm. At the public meeting you will be able to see the preliminary designs, ask questions of City staff and the consultants, and provide comments.
