East Main Street Waterline Replacement

Project Facts

  • Approximately 5,500 linear feet of 8-inch to 12-inch waterline will be replaced.
  • The existing waterline is believed to be from the 1920s and 1930s.
  • Construction began in late November 2016, and is expected to last approximately 18 months.
  • Water Management will keep the public updated with additional and relevant project information at least once a week during the construction phase.
  • Individual meetings have been held with stakeholders in the construction corridor.
  • Traffic considerations:
    • Most work will occur during daytime hours; however, some weekend road closures will be required for work in intersections.
    • On-street parking will be closed along Main Street during construction.
    • Other lane closures and traffic shifts will be necessary; traffic control signs and markings will be used for all detours and shifts.
  • Access to homes and businesses will remain at all times.
  • Sound levels are anticipated to range between 70 and 90 decibels near work areas.
Thank you for your patience during these inconveniences, as we make infrastructure improvements to further enhance Durham's water system.
