Organized Crime Division

Selective Enforcement Team
​The Selective Enforcement Team (SET) is a unit of highly trained and specially equipped officers who handle hostage and barricaded-subject situations, sniper, counter-sniper and terrorist activities. The team also participates in drug raids, high-risk arrest and search warrant service, dignitary protection details and support to other units in surveillance operations. SET is on-call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Major Crimes Unit
The Major Crimes Unit is responsible for providing general narcotics enforcement services within the City of Durham. These narcotic enforcement services are geared towards both organized and non-organized groups and include the apprehension of street corner drug dealers and others involved in the illegal use and sale of controlled substances.

Vice Enforcement Services
This unit targets those who sell drugs in the open street, in public establishments, out of private dwellings, out of vehicles, and on or around school property and in areas frequented by juveniles. In addition, the Major Crimes Unit is responsible for providing vice enforcement services to address unlawful vice activities by members of organized groups or associations, as well as independent or non-organized individuals.

Organized Crime Unit
The Organized Crime Unit has investigators who are assigned to various federal task forces. These investigators utilize a variety of sophisticated techniques to target and investigate organized groups, families and associations engaged in illegal narcotics trafficking, gun trafficking and complaints dealing with homeland security.

Interdiction Unit

The Interdiction Unit investigates crimes related to the transportation of illegal substances in and out of the City. This unit uses a variety of surveillance and patrol techniques in order to interdict persons transporting illegal narcotics along the major highways in the City as well as the train and bus terminals.

The Interdiction Unit also is responsible for providing general narcotics enforcement services within the City of Durham. These services are geared toward both organized and non-organized groups.

Biological & Chemical Emergency Response Team
The Bio-Chemical Emergency Response Team (B-CERT) will respond to all criminal bio-chemical emergencies within the City of Durham. This team also provides appropriate biohazard training to uniform patrol officers and establishes new protocols to deal with different levels of biohazard threats. This team is on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
