Junior Fire Marshal Program

Students ages 13-15 have the opportunity to do something exciting and educational with the Durham Fire Department. Annually, the Durham Fire Department presents the Junior Fire Marshal Program. The program is offered during the Durham Public School summer break and allows participants to explore careers in emergency services.

Lessons Learned


During the 4-day period students participate in hands-on activities that will enhance their safety knowledge and potentially inspire a career in the fire service. Lessons learned include:
  • Team building
  • Firefighter skills
  • Emergency medical training
  • Community service

Time and Location


The program usually takes place in the first week of summer break (Durham Public Schools). Students attend daily from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Pick-up and drop off each day takes place at:

Students are requested to attend daily as well as be active, engaged participants. The program is free of charge, and lunch is provided daily. Applications must be submitted by a deadline for consideration. For information, call 919-560-4233 ext. 19242.
