Did you know that every year, North Carolinians throw away enough trash to circle the earth twice. Recycling is one of the best ways you can help to protect the environment. Recycling saves natural resources, keeps reusable items out of landfills, and provides the materials needed to make recycled products.

In Durham, It's easy to recycle. Place all acceptable recycling items in one container. There is no need for any sorting.

Curbside Collection
• All containers should be rinsed and dry
• There should be no food residue
• All lids and caps go in the trash
• Place shredded paper in a brown paper bag before placing in the cart
• Place carts at the curb by 7 a.m. (6 a.m. during summer months)

Waste Disposal & Recycling Center
The Waste Disposal and Recycling Center at 2115 E. Club Blvd. has a drop-off center that accepts several items that cannot be placed in the curbside cart.
 
Operating hours are Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to noon Items include:
 • antifreeze, motor oil, cooking oil, electronics, white goods (appliances), tires (maximum of five) and, for free disposal.
