All solid waste collections are suspended today due to road conditions. Residents should leave their carts at the curb for pick up as soon as road conditions permit. Any questions or concerns regarding solid waste collection schedule changes should be directed to Durham One Call at (919) 560-1200.
If collections must be suspended due to road conditions tomorrow morning, residents should leave their carts at the curb. If the department is unable to collect trash and recycling tomorrow, then Wednesday customers will receive collection on Friday, and Thursday customers will receive collection on Saturday if road conditions permit. Since collections for this week will continue to focus on trash and recycling, yard waste and bulky items collections remain suspended for all customers until next week on their regularly scheduled collection day.
The Waste Disposal and Recycling Center (Transfer Station) and the Household Hazardous Waste Center will open at 9 a.m. tomorrow. Any questions or concerns regarding solid waste collection schedule changes should be directed to Durham One Call at (919) 560-1200.
The Solid Waste Management Department partners with the community to provide exceptional customer service and outstanding waste collection, recycling, and disposal services in a safe, efficient, cost effective, and environmentally sound manner. Through the Waste Reduction and Sustainability Program, the department continually increases recycling and waste stream diversion opportunities, which improves the quality and sustainability of neighborhoods. Solid Waste Management strives to reduce garbage tonnage by 10 percent within three years and increase recycling participation to 95 percent.
The department also operates the Hazardous Waste Center, Waste Disposal and Recycling Center (Transfer Station
) and Swap Shop to enable resident to divert recyclable and hazardous items from landfills.
