The Solid Waste Management Department partners with the community to provide exceptional customer service and outstanding waste collection, recycling, and disposal services in a safe, efficient, cost effective, and environmentally sound manner. The department enhances the appearance of the city and environment by providing the following services:

 
The Ten Year Solid Waste Management Plan in conjunction with the City’s Strategic Plan, ensures that the department provides professional management that contributes to creating thriving, livable communities and a well-managed city.  Through the Waste Reduction and Sustainability Program, the department continually increases recycling and waste stream diversion opportunities, which improves the quality and sustainability of neighborhoods. Solid Waste Management strives to reduce garbage tonnage by 10 percent within three years and increase recycling participation to 95 percent.

The department also operates the Hazardous Waste Center, Waste Disposal and Recycling Center (Transfer Station) and Swap Shop to enable resident to divert recyclable and hazardous items from landfills.
