Third Fork Creek Watershed Improvement Project

Program Will Help the City Prioritize and Implement Watershed Improvements

The City of Durham’s Stormwater Services Division with the Department of Public Works has contracted with Tetra Tech, an engineering firm, to complete a study and assessment of Third Fork Creek and its watershed within the city limits. The analysis will help the City prioritize and implement watershed improvement projects aimed at cleaning up and revitalizing Third Fork Creek, which flows into New Hope Creek and Jordan Lake. The project includes a field assessment of streams and stormwater treatment devices, such as ponds, all along the project area and the development of a prioritized list of potential improvement projects that will be included in our updated Watershed Plan.

Although the majority of the field work has been completed residents living in the assessment area – which encompasses approximately 39 miles of streams in the watershed – still may see field crews in orange vests with identifying credentials walking through neighborhoods and along streams in the watershed. These crews will present their identifying credentials upon request.
