The Durham Police Department is primarily responsible for protecting and safeguarding the lives and property of Durham residents through enforcement of criminal laws and safety education. Core functions are carried out through five operational bureaus: Uniform Patrol, Investigative Services, Administrative Services, Community Services and Office of the Chief. In addition, the department works collaboratively with City, County and State departments, area public safety agencies and community organizations to maximize resources and security and to heighten resident engagement in safety and crime-related issues.
