The Department of Equal Opportunity/Equity Assurance (EO/EA) implements the City’s Equal Business Opportunity Ordinance. This ordinance underpins the Equal Business Opportunity Program (EBOP), which is designed to provide city contracting opportunities for socially and economically disadvantaged persons doing business in the city's contracting market place. Guided by the City’s Strategic Plan, EO/EA ensures that its services support making Durham a great place to live, work and play by focusing on a strong and diverse economy, assuring that city efforts are well managed and supporting the stewardship of the City’s physical assets.
The department is also responsible for:
• Maintenance of data bank
• Business development
• Project compliance
• Coordinating activities of the EBOP Advisory Committee
• Coordinating activities of the Mayor’s Committee for Persons with Disabilities.
