Burton Park Basketball Court
One of the two basketball courts at Burton Park (1100 Sima Ave.) has been moved ten feet away from the adjacent stream, due to stream erosion issues. The erosion was identified by Durham Parks and Recreation’s (DPR) maintenance staff during a park convergence. The purpose of the convergence was to identify and repair maintenance issues in the park from vegetation management to touching up paint.During the convergence, the park maintenance team identified a safety hazard on one of the two basketball courts at Burton Park. The stream eroded one of the courts making it unsafe and unplayable for patrons. The court is currently open until the weather warms enough to repaint the surface. When the painting occurs, patrons will still be able to use the other basketball court at the park. DPR encourages park users to be mindful of the construction signs and stay clear of the affected area during the painting process. Please report any safety and playability hazards to DPR.
