National Night Out (NNO) 2016 is August 2. Registration is now closed. For questions and concerns, call the department’s Office of Public Affairs at 919-560-4322.
In the case of inclement weather, please see guidelines below:
Extreme Heat. Usually, it is extremely hot on NNO. Take precautions to avoid heat-related emergencies. Participants/attendees should stay hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids, and avoid drinking coffee, caffeine or alcohol. Wear loose-fitting, lightweight, light-colored clothing. Avoid wearing dark colors because they absorb the sun's rays. Also avoid extreme temperature changes. Always call 911 in the case of emergency.
Rain. Coordinators of indoor NNO events are encouraged to implement the "rain or shine" principle. For outdoor NNO events, a rainy forecast does not automatically cancel DPD's observance.
In the event of extreme weather or major crisis, DPD will post a notice on the homepage of www.durhampolice.com by 3 p.m. with instructions. Also, the notice will be sent to the email addresses of registered coordinators who provided them. Coordinators may also call DPD's Public Affairs Office at 560-4322. After 4:30 p.m coordinators may call 943-6845.
