Buying a Home

The Department of Community Development administers affordable housing programs on behalf of the City of Durham. The Department's down-payment assistance program provides funding for second mortgage loans to low- and moderate-income households for the purchase of a home in the Southside Neighborhood.

The sources of funding include Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), HOME Investment Partnerships (HOME) funds, and Dedicated Housing Funds. All loans have low interest rates and require regular amortized repayments.

City of Durham loans are underwritten to assure full repayment of funds following specific program guidelines and underwriting criteria. City staff and its originating and underwriting agent will closely review all applications for program compliance, household eligibility, and loan underwriting approvals.

For information on the Southside program call 919-560-4570.

All Phase I lots have been sold , therefore we are unable to accept new applications at this time.
Phase II will be coming soon. If you would like to sign up for email notification to be notified when Phase II is ready to begin  you may call 919-560-4570.‚Äč
