September 2017 Program Descriptions

Enrichment Theme: Job Readiness
Week one, teens will discover How to Apply for jobs and where to look. Next, they will dive into Resume Writing for jobs and college. The following two weeks, participants will learn how to blow future employers away with Interview Prep and Mock Interviews. By the end of the month, participants will be ready to take on the job scene with confidence.

Mad Scientist Lab
Each week, participants will due small experiments that they will be able to take home. This month they will be making slime, play dough, volcanoes, and tornadoes in a jar.

Spa Essentials
These activities will explore the world of DIY projects. For the month of September, we will make relaxing items to use at home, made with things we all have around our homes. Homemade Bath bombs, bath salts, lip balm, and candles will surely get anyone set and ready for a spa day at home.

Wellness Activities
This month, our wellness activities will go as follows: Speed/agility training, razzle dazzle two hand tag football, indoor hockey, kickball, soccer, swimming, Twister challenge, fitness circuits, 3-on-3 Basketball, various skills and drills clinics, and flag football.

Computer Courses and Games
For September, our participants will have dedicated time to utilize the computer labs for homework and projects at our various sites during our Resource Lab time. Participants will be able to take advantage of Intro to PowerPoint and Google Docs. Lastly, time will be allotted for teens to play Roblox and compete against their friends on this online game.

Artsy Stuff
Juice and Draw – Let’s paint and drink some juice! – Bad Art Night – Smart Art (Recycled Materials). During these sessions, teens will have dedicated time to create art that will be showcased in February.

Community Garden At Edison Johnson
Teens will learn the basics of gardening during these dedicated times. They will plant and do minor upkeep of the garden space. As the sessions progress, participants will perform outreach to local after school programs.
