Construction is scheduled to begin on the Fayetteville Road Widening Project and the Buxton/Riddle Road Intersection Improvements Project.  The Fayetteville Road Widening Project will consist of widening Fayetteville Road from Barbee Road to Cornwallis Road.  The Buxton/Riddle Road Intersection Improvements Project consist of realigning Buxton and Riddle Road to a traditional intersection.  We are excited about this work and hope it will provide a welcomed improvement to the neighborhood and the traveling community.  These projects will be advertised for bid this summer and we plan to begin construction in Fall, 2017 and last for 18 months.  Normal construction will occur Monday thru Friday during daytime hours between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Buxton Riddle Intersection:
Due to the existing offset configuration, the intersection of Fayetteville Street, Buxton Drive and Riddle Road does not operate efficiently under current traffic volumes and will only decrease in level of service as traffic volumes increase in the coming years.  The City of Durham Transportation and Public Works Departments have collaborated on a traffic study and design plans for the project.  The final plans propose to realignment of Riddle Road to the north to create a traditional 4-way intersection.  Additional through and turn lanes will be added to Fayetteville Street, Buxton Drive and Riddle Road to accommodate increased traffic volumes through the design year of 2030.  The project will include roadway construction and signal upgrades at the proposed intersection and the crossing of the American Tobacco Trail at Riddle Road.
