Durham Planning Academy

The Spring 2016  Durham Planning Academy is full. We anticipate running future sessions of the Durham Planning Academy and will send notification when registration for the next academy opens.

The Durham City-County Planning Department will run its pilot Planning Academy in spring 2016.

The Planning Academy is intended to introduce residents of Durham to planning concepts and procedures. The course will explore the responsibilities of the Durham Planning Department, as well as typical procedures that various types of planning cases undergo. Participants will also learn about the legal framework in which planners in Durham must operate. Finally, the class will engage in a “mock Planning Commission”, where many facets and perspectives on planning issues in Durham will be discussed.

The pilot Planning Academy will be held over three Tuesdays in April and May: April 19, May 3, and May 17. All sessions will be from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. and dinner will be provided. Participants in the program must be able to attend all three sessions and complete “homework” prior to the second and third sessions.
