Outdoor Recreation

Outdoor RecreationDurham Parks and Recreation's Outdoor Recreation unit offers outdoor recreation and environmental education programs for all ages. From kayaking programs to nature hikes, cave exploration to lunar exploration, and moonlight geo-paddles to overnight camping experiences, we have a multitude of opportunities for you and your friends and family to enjoy the outdoors together.

The majority of our programs do not require prior experience and equipment is generally provided. For a list of upcoming programs pick up a copy of the Play More Guide at any facility, the administrative office or view it online.
  1. The Outdoor Recreation Unit manages the City Lakes, a high and low ropes course as well as many other programs and activities.

  2. Homeschool / Youth Group Requested Programs
The Outdoor Recreation Unit will tailor a program to meet your needs, whether it's an environmental education program to meet a home school science requirement or a paddle program for a badge.
Our innovative youth group and homeschool programs will ensure your group has an enjoyable experience whatever the objective. Please contact Ryan Sailstad or call 919-560-4405 if you are interested in learning more about our tailored programs.

Camps
We offer a week-long Adventure Camp for kids ages 9-13, where they will experience overnight camp-outs, caving and paddling among other outdoor skills and adventures. We also offer West Point on the Eno Adventures, a week-long camp for ages 9-13 that will spend the morning at West Point on the Eno, and the afternoon exploring natural wonders around the Triangle. In addition, we have the environmental education-based Eno Discovery Camps at West Point on the Eno Park, which serves youth ages 6-12.

For camps looking for field trips that offer the outdoor experience, we offer sailing and paddling programs, low and high ropes course programs, map and compass courses and much more. Visit our Summer Camp page to learn more.
