Durham residents voted for their favorite Park Project
The National Recreation and Park Association, Disney, ABC and ESPN collaborated to revitalize parks across the U.S. including a park right here in Durham through Parks Build Community! The Parks Build Community help revitalize and restore local parks and park programs across the country. One of 3 Durham parks was eligible to receive a $20,000 grant and residents got to choose the park!

Holt School Road Park Won
Holt School Road Park is cherished by the community and was one of 15 projects nationwide selected to receive the grant. Prior to the renovations, the park had old playground equipment that included a slide and a bland rocker with little life left.

Holt School Road Park Upgrades
In early August, a host of volunteers and DPR staff worked together to complete the renovations. The work included adding a nature inspired play element, installing new elements and expanding and re-grooming the interpretive trail. The expansion of the trail will allow this space to become an outdoor classroom for the school next door when teaching environmental stewardship.
