The Public Affairs Office communicates the City’s activities, services and events through the website, written and e-publications, advertising, social media, and is the official contact, or City spokesperson for the news media. The office also operates Durham TV8, the city’s government television channel. Through these activities, the Public Affairs Office contributes to the City’s strategic goal of a “well managed city.”
All official news releases are distributed from the office, except for routine Police, Fire, and Parks and Recreation releases. In addition to supporting City information campaigns to the public, the office also oversees production of citywide special events such as ground breakings, ribbon cuttings and grand openings.

Media Public Records Requests
The City of Durham is pleased to respond to public records requests. Responses are governed by the North Carolina statute, specifically N.C. General Statutes, Chapter 132 and provisions of the North Carolina Records Retention and Disposition Schedule Issued by the N.C. Department of Cultural Resources (Government Records Branch of North Carolina). To expedite and better coordinate requests, media should submit written public record requests with contact information to Beverly B. Thompson.
